 | Konstantin Shekita was one of the first pipe makers in Ukraine. Shekita began his career at the Golden Gate factory in Kiev in the 1990s, when he was a teenager. He initially polished pipe mouthpieces, but soon became involved in every aspect of pipe making, from design to production. Because the factory also produced wooden furniture, it had ample raw materials to manufacture its first pipes. Shekita's first briar pipes were made from briar supplied to the factory from Albania, where he grew up near the Adriatic Sea. Shekita soon began working individually, but he also maintained his collaboration with Golden Gate. Today, Konstantin Shekita pipes are available to pipe enthusiasts in America and Europe. Another interesting point is that over the course of 17 years, the maker is known to have made over five hundred pipes of different designs. However, not all of these pipes are for sale; Shekita keeps some for his private collection. |
