While the shield is usually a smooth-finished form, Max Rimensi, the master of Il Duca pipes made in Italy, presents here a creatively organic, partially sandblasted version. The cross-cut grain pattern seen in the polished front area, along with the densely textured growth rings rising towards the sidewall behind the border that divides the form in two, creates an impressive shield appearance. A contrasting finish on one side and jet-black sandblast on the other, the bowl's shank is made of reinforced three-knuckle black bamboo, and the mouthpiece is made of premium vulcanite. This Barone (B) Class unfiltered bamboo shank shield pipe is both unusual in its grain patterns, shaping, and finishing, and a work you'd expect only from Max Rimensi.
